Imagine a bearded Michael Jackson driving a monster truck through the hills of Teletubbieland. Got it? Well, that’s what Selfmachine sounds like: Groovy, melodic, heavy and damn catchy.
Selfmachine is a metal band that likes to do things their own way. They skipped the demo stage and went straight ahead to record a full-length album. Their boldness paid off: ‘Broadcast Your Identity’ was released globally through Wormholedeath/Aural music in 2014. The album received a ton of positive reviews and was awarded ‘Dutch release of the year’ by website ‘Global Metal Apocalypse’.
Selfmachine embarked on their first European Tour supporting metalcore masters The Agonist in March 2015. The experience of playing 18 shows in 20 days in 11 different countries blew their minds, making them even more determined to pursue world domination. Feeling they achieved everything they could with their “first demo” they set out to record their sophomore album.
‘Societal Arcade’ will see the light of day in March 2017, again through Wormholedeath Records. The album touches a broad range of topics, with the overall concept of dealing with the structures that make up our modern society. Life is a game and we play it while simultaneously being played. Like a pinball that gets nudged around, trying to claim achievements and desperate to score.
As suggested by their label, the band travelled to Langhirano, Italy to record at Realsound Studios. The serene mountain landscape and exquisite pizza restaurants there gave the band the perfect focus to take their performance to the “next level”. That term gets thrown around a lot, but it this case it applies: ‘Societal Arcade’ is a huge step forward from its predecessor. This can also be attributed to the fact that the album was mixed and mastered by legendary producers duo Waldemar Sorychta and Dennis Koehne (Moonspell, Samael, Grip Inc.).
After the release of the new album the band will tour Europe again, starting in April 2017 (together with Koronal, Fractal Universe and Unprocessed) and record several music videos. Selfmachine has also recently been confirmed for the MetalDays 2017 Festival in Tolmin, Slovenia. More tours and shows are currently being planned. Selfmachine plans to promote ‘Societal Arcade’ until the wheels come flying off!
So put on your dancing shoes and prepare to get run down by that fat funky monster truck called Selfmachine!
